Plan to Stop Sugar Cravings

If you have a sweet tooth or craving for junk food, you are not alone. Most people have it more or less. It could be very difficult to stick to a healthy diet always and all time. Don’t push yourself too hard or it could get you the opposite effect.

Someone once says: “Cravings are driven by the brain’s need for ‘reward’ – not the body’s need for food.” Isn’t it so true? However, nibble a little here bite a bit there as long as you know when to stop, it is absolutely fine. There are suggestions to help you stop sugar cravings.

1.   Eat regularly and your meal plan:

Have a meal, if you are hungry. Make sure you know it is not just a craving. Remember quality is more important than quantity.

2. Take a Hot Shower:

Some people might find it helpful to get rid of the thought of craving. Water must be hot giving you the feeling of being in the sauna.

3. Go for a walk or run a bit:

Get yourself away from the food. Another important effect is exercise will release endorphins, which can help to turn the craving off. If outdoor is not an option, try to exercise at home.

Other tips that might be useful:

  • HAVE A GLASS OF WATER
  • EAT A FRUIT: such as berries or avocados, etc.
  • AVOID ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS
  • EAT MORE PROTEIN: nuts (pistachios, etc.), seeds (sesame, chia, etc.), pulses (beans, lentils, and chickpeas, etc.)
  • HAVE A TALK WITH A FRIEND
  • SLEEP WELL, AVOID EXCESS STRESS
  • AVOID CERTAIN TRIGGERS
  • TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN
  • DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF: this is especially true when I go grocery shopping with an empty stomach. I always ended up bought more than my family need and regret about it.
  • drink a cup of herbal tea (which has a sweet hint, such as vanilla)
  • have a piece of gum

As a matter of fact, sugar craving is a kind of habit, a bad habit. Try to break it and replace with a healthy habit. Remember to throw away junk foods, the triggers. Out of sight out of mind. Consult with your doctor if it is necessary.
